The Real Summer School & TechClub

 

LearningClubs has created the following 3 programmes for this summer to build skill confident and fight 'brain drain' common to many students during the holidays.

 

1) Maths, English & Philosophy - Years 4 to 6

   Register now.

 

Monday through Friday - 8.30 a.m.-11.30 pm

Innovative and interactive small classes. Is your child under achieving at school and has not had the opportunity to show their genius? Perhaps they are losing confidence or saying that they are 'not getting' what is being taught? If so, this course is for them plus they are to expect a lot of fun!

Students are ability grouped.

 

Tutor Student Ratio: 1 to 6

Prerequisite: Skill based tests (English & Maths) to identify focus of instruction.

Includes: testing plus 15 hours of tuition

Minimum enrolment: 5 students

When Summer School and TechClub 101 are purchased for the same child a supervised lunchtime and playtime from 11.30 to 12.30 is provided.

 

2) Scratch Levels 1 & 2

We will ease your child into object-oriented programming concepts with Scratch (from the MIT Media Lab) where they will learn to create stories and interactive adventures with stackable code blocks building functionality and complexity. This computer programming course develops strategic and creative thinking in students within a calm environment.

 

Topics include loops, conditional statement, duplication, creating personal sprites to name a few. The final aspect of the course is team building a storyboard and delivering an exciting project using scratch building blocks.

Eligibility: This course is suitable for beginners and offers a taste for real-world programming.

Minimum enrolment: 4 students

Cost: £199.00*

Non-refundable deposit: £50 is required at the time of registration to guarantee a place for your child. This will be deducted from the programme cost.

3) Mechatronics    Coding & Electrical Circuitry         Guernsey

    Years 5-7      Level 1

    Date: 19 - 23 August  2019    Guernsey

    Monday through Friday - 12.30 pm - 15.30pm

Students will learn the basics of Arduino programming and making electronic circuit prototypes. From blinking LEDs to mobile robots, the maker culture is shaping up to be the second industrial revolution!

 

For advanced students, they will develop a project that displays their talents from design through to implementation.

 

Using Mechantronics students will learn how to connect components on a breadboard and do basic Arduino programming to control them. The course is designed to introduce concepts step-by-step culminating in a project such as a robot that makes drawings or a machine for automatically watering plants!

 

In addition, your child will learn:

  • How to create a simple LED circuit to LED flashes at various intervals

  • The anatomy of an Arduino sketch, software and breadboard

  • Setup() functions and a loop() functions

  • How to “code” the Arduino

  • Mechanics and circuitry of robotics

Minimum enrolment: 4 students

Cost: £219.00* (Including Arduino Kit* to take home)

Eligibility: This course is suitable for intermediate learners who have Scratch or other programming experience.
